Exploring the Susa a gorilla family in Rwanda – Rwanda safari news

RwandaGorilla The Rwanda gorilla safari destination of Volcanoes National Park has ten (10) habituated gorilla families that thrive on the slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes where they have survived for centuries past.
Previously studied by the legendary Dian Fossey, the Susa A gorilla family is one of the most sought after gorilla families by travelers on gorilla trekking safaris in Rwanda because of its special touch to the famous gorilla conservationist and its long time existence.
Deriving its name from the local river named Susa that flows through their place of abode, the Susa A gorilla family presents itself as the hardest gorilla family to trek considering the fact that it dwells in the highest slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes However, to neutralize this challenging hike, the trackers from the Rwanda Development Board would ascertain where the group is the evening of the previous day so as to provide smooth trek to the next trekkers on gorilla safari in Rwanda. Because of its distant and yet challenging movements, gorilla trekkers have been stopped at times to explore it.
With a family size of twenty eight (28) gorillas, Susa A is gifted with three (3) silverbacks. Amazingly, the group was even larger with 42 members before splitting to form the Susa B. During that time, when one encountered it during his/her gorilla safari in Rwanda, the eyes could only land on gorillas everywhere.
Apparently, the joyous moods in the group are brought up by the two playful twins Impano and Byishimo and poppy which is among the oldest habituated gorillas. Poppy is known to have been born in 1976 and is among the first gorillas to be habituated by Dian Fossey. Exploring the Susa A gorilla group while on a gorilla safari in Rwanda is one of the memorable encounters that one can have in Rwanda.

How about a safari to an enthralling tooro kingdom of western Uganda - Uganda safari news

king_oyo_of_toro  In the southwestern districts of Kabarole and Kasese rests a dominant but ceremonious and amicable group of folks who to great depths inspire an incredible Uganda Safari. A region not only opportunely gifted with a rich and very fascinating arts, beliefs and philosophies, Tooro kingdom presents to the eye a varied number of attractions that will keep visitors in awe of such an incredible Uganda Safari and Tour destination.
At the heart of the kingdom, and on top of a majestic hill that overlooks an uncontaminated Fort Portal town, magnificently rests the palace of Tooro’s handsome King the Omukama Oyo Nyimba Iguru Kabamba Rukidi IV. Quite a mouthful of names those are! But “Omukama” is just a title given to all Tooro’s kings similar to their close elder brothers the Kingdom of Bunyoro. Known for his historical coronation after the passing of his father the Omukama Patrick David Mathew Kaboyo Olimi III, Omukama Rukidi IV has since the age of 3 (three) and a half graced the throne making him the “world’s youngest monarch” reigning today.
Genuinely situated at a high altitude, Tooro Kingdom is higher than most parts of Uganda (about 1500-5000 meters) and therefore a Safari Tour in Uganda Tooro Kingdom will accord you a privilege to enjoy a modified tropical climate.
Ranging from the mythical stalactites referred to as “Amabeere ga Nyina Mwiru” by the local people embodying the breasts of one of Tooro’s princesses (Nyina Mwiru); the thick green of the incessant tea estates; the rivers and streams like Mpanga, , Mahoma, Nkusi, Nyakisi and Semuliki; numerous crater lakes of varying sizes, like Saaka the largest among them; to cultural encounters with numerous settlements and livelihoods that are back-dropped by views of the legendary Rwenzori mountains, Tooro Kingdom has continually told a perfect story to visitors interested in an all-round Safari in Uganda.
There is surely a lot to marvel at, for anyone desiring to break away from the daily routine, much that cannot be exhaustibly described and understood in writing. Let me mark the second week of my September calendar in particular because around this time the annual coronation ceremonies (Empango) are held at the king’s palace. You might want to also do the same.

New silverback assumes over leadership of Nyakagezi gorilla group-Uganda Safari News

nakanyeki gorilla safaris-uganda Nyakagezi gorilla family is the only habituated Mountain gorilla group in Uganda’s smallest national park Mgahinga National Park situated in south western section of Uganda. The park is part of the prodigious Virunga Massifs and strategically situated in the extreme boarder with Rwanda’s Volcanoes National park and unexplored Virunga National park of the democratic republic of Congo.
The famous Nyakagezi gorilla family in Mgahinga has ten (10) individual mountain gorilla members which include five silverbacks, one juvenile, three females, and one babie. During times of habituation, individual Mountain gorillas in a given gorilla family are accorded different names to ease identification process. Nyakagezi gorilla family which can be encountered by visitors on Uganda gorilla trekking tour to Mgahinga national park has members identified as Mark, Mathew, Bugingo, Nshuti, Baby Rukundo, Nvuyekure, and Mutagamba.
Breaking news coming in from Mgahinga National park portrays that Mark has assumed over the leadership of Nyakagezi gorilla family from former Bugingo silver back who is estimated to be 53 years old. The news also say that Bugingo still lives with the family members harmoniously which is a rare case in mountain gorillas as well as other animals where supplanted silverbacks tend to separate from such families and leave in single life or search for refuge on other gorilla groups or families. In some instances, they tend to join other habituated gorilla groups or form its own new gorilla family. We have witnessed these instances or scenarios where Mwirima silver back went into isolation after it was replaced from the leadership of Mubare gorilla family.
From total number of seven (7) individual gorilla members to ten (10) members is good news to Uganda’s gorilla tourism as visitors on Uganda gorilla trekking safaris like to trek mountain gorilla families or groups composed of many members including silver-backs as well as babies. The increase in the number of gorilla members in Mgahinga is attributed to better conservation methods used by Uganda Wildlife Authority in partnership with other stakeholders who are working day and night to see that mountain gorillas are conserved and protected in Mgahinga.
Nyakagezi gorilla family used to be nomadic gorilla family moving from Uganda’s Mgahinga to Virunga national park in Congo and Volcanoes national park in Rwanda until last year 2014 when the group finally settled down in Mgahinga National Park in south western part of Uganda. Because of its nomadic nature, it was very difficult for Uganda Wildlife Authority to sell its gorilla permits in advance to an extent that all visitors on Gorilla trekking safaris but interested in trekking the Nyakagezi gorilla family would book their gorilla permits on ground. This was a great limitation to the development or takeoff of gorilla trekking tourism activities in Mgahinga National Park since no visitor would spend money to undertake Uganda gorilla trekking tour to trek Nyakagezi gorilla family when gorilla permits sold are for Bwindi Impenetrable National park. However, due to the fact that the gorilla family has permanently settled in Mgahinga, the Park is now receiving notable number of visitors undertaking gorilla trekking safaris to the park to participate in mountain gorilla trekking as well as other activities like golden monkey trekking, hiking of Mgahinga Volcanoes among other volcanoes that include Sabinyo and Muhavura. There is also Batwa trail which allows tourists to explore the life style and culture of the once traditional owners of Mgahinga forest before it was gazzeted to national park.

The Uganda’s best national parks that featured among the best fifty national parks in African continent include Kidepo National park, Murchison Falls National park as well as Queen Elizabeth National park.
This ranking which I hope will bring facelift to tourism sector in Uganda was conveyed or carried out by the safari booking portal located in Holland. In the ranking, Kidepo Valley National Park located in the far north east of Uganda appeared to be 14th in great African continent and Queen Elizabeth National park ranked in the 34th Position where as Uganda’s largest national park- Murchison Falls National Park was placed at 39th position in whole African continent.
In spite of the fact that Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Kibale National Parks are the most famous and visited National parks in Uganda by visitors on Uganda mountain gorilla trekking Safaris and chimpanzee tracking safaris respectively, they never appeared in this survey or ranking due to the fact that the survey only focused or considered only specific national parks providing classic wildlife viewing opportunities in Africa.
Kidepo Valley National park perfectly situated in the far north eastern corner of Uganda was last year also described as the finest or best National park in Africa where travelers on African Safaris to Uganda can easily see and spot wildlife predator’s species such as lions, rare cheaters. The park is also considered to be the only park in Uganda with the largest herds of buffaloes, antelopes and Elephants. Hence this has made Kidepo National Park one of the best places to visitors on Uganda wildlife Safaris. The karamajongo culture is another additional life time experience for any traveler under taking Uganda safari tour to Kidepo national park. You can visit the Karamajongo and partake in their cultural dances and explore their manyatas.

Strategically positioned in south western Uganda on the floor of the great western arm of the East African rift Valley, Queen Elizabeth national ranked in 34th position is Uganda Safari destination highly famous for its tree climbing lions, adventurous boat cruise on Kazinga channel that offers an opportunity to enjoy the views of wide-range the of hippos, buffaloes, Elephants as well as unique bird species. Game drives in Kasenyi, Magnificent views & sights of the mountains of the moon.
Uganda the pearl of Africa is continually gaining from such international rankings or accolades following her being named or considered to be the best tourist destination in 2012. If such wonderful rankings and accolades continue, then we will experience more visitors’ increasing to undertake safaris tours to Uganda provided the country remains peaceful. In the recent budget reading, the tourism sector was allocated thirty (30) billion shillings for marketing Uganda as a number one safari tourism destination in Africa and the whole world. I hope that if this money is well utilized, it will go an extra mile to do something since funds have now increased from what the tourism sector used to get in the previous budgets.

rochadale girafes-uganda  The Rothschild giraffe is one of the most sought after Uganda safari products that at the moment thrive in Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley National Parks only at the Uganda standards.
In a bid to ensure the diversification of national parks and enhancing their capacity in being attractive to the travelers on safaris in Uganda, some population of Rothschild giraffe will be transferred to Lake Mburo National Park in south west of Uganda.
Lake Mburo like other national parks in the south west of Uganda has no Rothschild giraffes thus bring in the giraffes to its rolling savannah landscapes dotted with acacia species would definitely contribute to its attractiveness and prompt world travelers to include it on their travel itinerary while planning safaris to Uganda
According to Mr. Atimnedi Patrick who is a conservation expert in the Uganda Wildlife Authority overlooking this exercise, a count of eight giraffes with the composition of four (4) males and four (4) females are to be relocated from the Uganda safari tour destination of Murchison Falls National Park and the exercise is planned to take 3 weeks. The Lake Mburo National Park has proved a friendly habitat for the giraffes as it has plenty of acacia woodland that act as food for them. Lake Mburo is the closest park to Kampala with 3½ hours drive and as population of Impala and Burchells Zebra along with other grazers.
