Gorilla families in Rwanda

Rwanda has got many gorilla families which have greatly attracted many gorilla trekking safaris. These families total to eight in number and these include; the sabyinyo group, susa group, Amahoro gorilla group, Agashya mountain gorilla group, the Umubano Group, the Kwitonda Group, the Kwitonda Group, the Hirwa Group and the Karisimbi Group. All these groups have attracted gorilla visits to Rwanda.
The first gorilla group is the Sabyinyo group which has 13 members, and historically the group is the easiest to trek and it’s led by the great silver back called the Guhonda, he is known to be so easy going and has been known to change at some times, many tourists have visited Rwanda so as to have mountain gorilla tracking safaris of this group.
The second gorilla group in Rwanda is the Susa which is currently the largest group in the whole world; it was studied by Dian Fossey who was a great gorilla conservationist in Rwanda, the group has the oldest gorilla called Poppy who was also born in 1976, this group takes its name from Susa river which owns its source in the Virunga mountains. This group has also attracted many gorilla trekking safaris to Rwanda.
A gorilla tracking safari to Rwanda will expose you to the Amahoro group which name means peace and it’s led by Ubumwe who usually lives up to his name. There is always a steep climb to reach these beautiful gorillas of the Amahoro group; the trek to the group is so wonderful to experience.
The Hirwa group which also has 16 members which have emerged from different habituated families of Rwanda. The group consists of nine members with one silverback; the group was also formed in 2006. This group has also attracted many gorilla visits to Rwanda.
Agashya gorilla group has 13 members and the group was named after its commanding silverback known as the ‘Agashya ‘who won the group by first studying the former leader ‘Nyakarima. Agashya group is also know for spending most of its time in forested saddles which is between mount sabyinyo and mountain Gahinga. This group has increased gorilla adventures to Rwanda.
A gorilla trekking safari to Rwanda will expose you to many of these groups and you will come to know most of the gorilla features and characteristics of these mountain gorillas in Rwanda.
